Fourth Quarter Earnings Preview for Tiffany & Co.

Luxury jewelry store chain Tiffany & Co. (TIF) is trading lower today as Wall Street awaits its fourth quarter earnings report on Monday, but by most accounts analysts are expecting to see strong earnings from the company.

Going into Monday's earnings report, analysts are forecasting the company to report $1.13 a share. For the same period last year Tiffany had earnings of $0.85 per share, so if it is able to match analyst estimates it would mark a very respectable 32% jump year over year.

Nike Jumps Following Strong Earnings Report

Shares of athletic giant Nike, Inc. (NKE) are up over 3% in after hours trading after the company posted better than expected earnings for its fiscal third quarter this afternoon.

As we noted in our earnings preview last night, analysts had forecast earnings of $0.89 per share for the quarter. Fueled by a 7% increase in sales during the quarter, Nike was able to outpace estimates and earn $1.01 per share. This marks the 11th straight quarter that Nike has been able to post better than expected quarterly earnings.

Nike Third Quarter Earnings Preview

Athletic foot ware and accessories giant Nike Inc. (NKE) will be reporting its fiscal third quarter results tomorrow after the market closes.

Going into tomorrow's earnings report, analysts are expecting the company to report $0.88 per share, down 11.1% from the same period last year.

The economic downturn hit the company's sales, but last quarter it stated that it was starting to see a turnaround in sales and consumer sentiment. Wall Street will be looking for further signs that sales are starting to improve for company.

Oil Gives Back Some Gains

rising oil pricesOil is trading higher on the day, but prices have fallen a good bit from the high they hit immediately following this week's inventory report.

Prices rose as high as $83.03 a barrel, and are currently trading at $81.97, up $0.48.

The reason why prices spiked so much following the report was the initial reaction to the smaller than expected rise in crude reserves. Analysts had been looking to see a jump of 2.1 million barrels last week, but the report indicated that inventories rose by a much smaller 1.4 million barrels.

Increased Job Openings Shed Light On Unemployment

Unemployment has been a major concern for Americans over the past couple of years, but we get a bit of good news that job openings rose by 7.6% in January, compared with December.

Indicating that employers are at least starting to hire again, new job openings rose to 2.7 million. This is the highest level since back in February 2009.

Kroger Fourth Quarter Earnings Preview

Kroger Q4 Earnings PreviewThe earnings season is winding down, but there are still many big name companies due to report, and tomorrow features grocer giant Kroger Co. (KR). Kroger will be reporting its fourth quarter numbers before the market opens.

Going into tomorrow's earnings report, analysts expect Kroger to earn $0.34 per share. Should the company match analyst estimates it would mark a 34% drop from the 53 cents it earned during the same period last year.

Oil Closes Above $80

rising oil pricesOver the past week, oil prices have been flirting with the psychological $80 barrier, and they were finally able to settle above $80 Wednesday. Oil traded up $1.26 a barrel to $80.94.

Earlier today, we got the weekly inventory report from the Department of Energy, which showed a greater-than-expected jump in reserves last week. The report showed that oil inventories grew by four million barrels, which was well above the one-million-barrel increase that analysts had forecast.

Toyota Sales Hit by Recall Concerns

Toyota Accused of Withholding Test Data

toyota recall crisisToyota Motor Company (TM) continues to find itself in arguably the biggest crisis in the auto maker's history, and today more accusations were made against the company. The company is back in the news today with accusations that Toyota tried to hide data in lawsuits filed by Toyota drivers injured in crashes.

The accusation came from New York Democrat, Edolphus Towns. Towns stated that the company deliberately shielded some of its design and testing data, and in many instances settled lawsuits in order to avoid turning over the information.

TJX Cos Trades Higher Following Better-Than-Expected Earnings

Toyota Official Testifies That Recall May Not Totally Fix Problems

The recent massive safety recalls by Toyota Motor Company (TM) have definitely hurt the company's image, and the uncertainty over the current safety of its vehicles has left many people wondering what exactly is going on with the Toyota recall. If people were concerned before, they are sure to be a bit more confused after a Toyota executive testified in front of the House Energy and Commerce Committee today that the recall may not "totally solve" the current problems.

Last week Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda, was asked to come before Congress and testify over the current safety recalls. Mr. Toyoda will answer questions tomorrow, but today it was James E. Lentz III, the president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., that had his chance to answer questions in front of Congress.

End in Sight for the Foreclosure Crisis?

Over the past couple of years, one of the most troubling aspects of the economy has been the ailing housing market, and in particular the large volumes of homes that have fallen victim to the foreclosure crisis. Finally we get some evidence that things may be moving in the right direction again.

Dell Sells Off Despite Topping Analyst Estimates

Personal computer giant Dell Inc. (DELL) traded sharply lower in after hours trading following Thursday's fourth quarter earnings report.

Going into the earnings announcement, Wall Street was expecting to see the company show earnings of 27 cents per share. Excluding special items the company posted earnings of 28 cents per share for the quarter.

During the same period last year the company earned 29 cents per share.

Toyota President Asked to Testify Before House Committee

toyota recallWith so much uncertainty surrounding the recent recalls by Toyota Motor Company (TM), the House committee that is investigating the recalls has asked the company's President to come and testify before it.

Over the past several weeks there have been more reported deaths resulting from sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles, and the House committee's chairman announced his desire to have Toyota's president, Akio Toyoda, to come in for testimony.

Hewlett-Packard Trading Higher After Hours Following Strong Q1 Earnings

Shares of Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) are up nicely in after hours trading this afternoon following a better than expected report for the company's fiscal first quarter.

Going into this afternoon's earnings report Wall Street was expecting to see the company show earnings of $1.06 a share. The actual figure came in above analyst estimates at $1.10 a share.

During the same period last year the company had earnings of 93 cents per share.
